The Annual Queensland Bus Industry Council’s 2015 Public Transport & Beyond Conference in sunny Cairns.
What followed next was a genuine surprise for Young’s Bus Service…
On Saturday evening April 11, Phillip Young (Operations Manager) and Erica Burns (Bus Driver) attended the annual Queensland Bus Industry Council (QBIC) Conference and Awards Ceremony held this year in Cairns. The Industry Awards recognize excellence in all aspects of the industry.
Young’s Bus Service was excited to win 2 out of the 3 categories and receive a bonus, Long Service award for reaching the milestone of 65 years in the business.
Phil and Erica knew they were nominated, and thought they were looking forward to a restful weekend away in Cairns. Both were totally unaware they were about to win 2 of the 3 categories. Meanwhile back in Central Queensland the Young’s team thought it would be a lovely surprise for Phil and Erica to win the awards as a surprise – however – no one had thought to prepare Phil or Erica with a whisper so they could prepare a speech or two!!!!!
The Long Service awardIn celebration of 65 Years Service recognizes Young’s Bus Service who strive to provide better public and school student transport utilising available technology both in vehicles purchased and operational requirements. |

The Outstanding Contribution awardRecognises the journey the Young’s family has taken from the business’s inception in 1949 with founder Stan Young operating the first bus service to Theodore to providing services today to Mt Morgan, Gracemere, Keppel Sands and the Capricorn Coast, connecting these communities. Stan’s wife Joan and children Philip, David and Margaret all took a great interest in the buses and continue to do so. |

Erica’s Professional Driver awardRecognises her outstanding driving history and customer service. Anyone who has ever travelled with Erica will remember her colourful costumes and bus decorations for special events along with her personal touch providing students with comics and stories for their journey to school and gifts at the end of the year! She is a credit to the company and a terrific role model for other drivers. This year, Young’s Bus Service is celebrating 65 years in the industry which is a major achievement for the family business. These awards have reinforced the wonderful service Young’s and their staff provide to the Central Queensland community. |
