Driving a bus is a job of love for one of our longest serving employees Peter. He’s been a bus driver since 1969 and started with Young’s Bus Service in 1974. That’s long enough to receive messages from family’s who used to travel with Peter when they attended school and now have their own children that travel with him.
Earlier this month we were contacted by the Bartlett Family who had some lovely things to say about Peter.
“Pete was my family’s bus driver for school from Emu Park to Yeppoon State High School and drove 6 out of the 7 of us to school across 13 years (2000 till 2013). Pete was always welcoming and always had a smile on his face. All of us remember him fondly and with great affection from our time at school. On the last day of year 12 me and one of my friends had photos taken with him as he drove us for the last time. Communities and local businesses are built strong thanks to the support of people like Pete.”
When we shared this letter to Peter, he was very humbled. He said “I’m sure every mum and dad out there knows how ‘challenging’ it can be putting the kids in the car and heading out for a trip. Now imagine your car filled with up to 50 kids. I try and make things interesting for all my young passengers. We often see alot of wildlife along the ride and I like to ask the kids to help me identify them. Transporting school children is an incredible responsibility, and I’ve loved ever step of the way since I started driving buses back in 1974.”
Peter is a Yeppoon local and a familiar face so you might have seen him around at the markets or at the beach. In his spare time he plays golf, does a bit of hobby farming and is involved with the Emu Park Lions Club.
From all of us at Youngs Bus Service, and indeed the greater community, we would like to thank Peter for his loyalty and service to our business and the community and for being an all round top bloke.
Thanks mate!
