Wednesday 17 April 2019 is Youth Homeless Day.
“Youth Homelessness Matters Day aims to raise awareness and public discussion about youth homelessness so that we can develop sustainable and innovative solutions for not only supporting the needs of homeless youth, but supporting the dreams of homeless youth.”
Here are some frightening statistics
- 28,000 Australians aged 12-25 are homeless any given night [1]
- There has been a 26% increase in youth homelessness over the last 10 years
- 70% left home to escape family violence, child abuse of family breakdown [2]
- The first and most common way young people experience homelessness is couch surfing
