Young’s Bus Service is a family business that’s been around Central Queensland for over 65 years. We are one of the longest established businesses in our region. We take immense pride in what we do for the community as a public transport provider because we connect all types of people, from the young, the disabled and the aged. Easy access for everyone.
Our bus drivers are more than just a bus driver too. Some of our bus drivers have even been around with us for so long they’ve chauffeured 3 generations of a family. There isn’t cargo more precious than a human being.
Running a public transport company is a big deal and we take it seriously with safety always paramount, no exceptions. Our busses are of the highest safety standard, and they are all fitted with the latest vehicle tracking technology to compliment. We capture information such as speed, breaking, door status, odometer & even engine statistics. We can even determine where a bus stops, what time, how long for and even the direction of travel. All our busses are governed to a maximum 102 km’s per hour.
We use this technology because it promotes accountability and transparency but also gives us information to better manage our fleet. We realise we’re not perfect but we always strive to be the best. If we receive a complaint, our complaint team vigorously investigates each complaint and often we find the allegations are unsubstantiated.
The public transport industry is heavily regulated by the Government. There are many laws we abide by. Busses and routes are allocated to us by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. The laws permit passengers (even school children) to stand on a bus. Sometimes we work in partnership with other departments such as Education Queensland. Did you know When a school student is travelling on our bus, they are the responsibility of the school Principal from the time they board with us, to the time they either get off at the school or their destination? This doesn’t mean we pass the buck when it comes to what we believe are our moral obligations. In January 2017, a Primary school student fell asleep on the bus. Shortly after, the bus driver noticed the child was asleep. We identified the child, interrupted the service and ensured the child was dropped off safely to the right location. Sometimes new children who start catching the bus either get on the wrong bus or forget where to get off. Our staff always go above and beyond to locate these children and have them dropped off safely. These are some of the many heart warming stories we experience on a daily basis which is one of the reason’s we’ve been around for so long.
