Student Safety = Being Street Smart
When it comes to waiting, boarding and departing the bus, there are heaps of safety tips to consider.
Being Street Smart, means being aware of other people, traffic and especially buses around bus stops.
And don’t forget the Danger Zone!
If you are closer than 3m to a bus, that is stopped or moving, you could be in danger.
Remember if you can’t see the bus driver, then they can’t see you, and they can’t make allowances for you.
-
WAIT for the school bus on the footpath (a safe distance from the traffic) and WAIT until the bus comes to a complete stop before approaching the bus.
-
SIT facing forward and speak quietly so as not to distract the driver. Remain seated until the bus has come to a complete stop.
-
WAIT on the footpath away from the bus and WATCH until the traffic has stopped.
-
WALK (don’t run) across the road, turning your head both ways to LOOK and LISTEN for traffic.
