Meet Dani. She is one of our newest recruits here at Young’s Bus Service having only started back in January this year (2016).
We caught up with Dani to see how things are going. Read the interview below.
What did you do before driving buses?
“I worked in the New Zealand army in the 101 heavy lift platoon (10th transport company). I used to move really big, and sometimes, very dangerous things. From Engineering equipment, fuel, weapons, tanks, soldiers. If it was big and used by the military, I moved it. I also used to work with trucks and heavy machinery. My new job with Young’s Bus Service is really no different, just that as a bus driver, I move people instead.
How are you enjoying driving buses?
“I love it!”It’s so interesting. People do like to sit there and chat to me. I love hearing about their day, their family and whatever interesting things they’ve done or are about to do. Little kids are great! They come out with the most random things. This 7 year old girl came up to me and said “My cat sneezed in my mouth”. I bursted out into laughter. The best part of the job is having a 20 minute friendship with someone you may never see again. I also love the relationships I form with my regular passengers.”
How long have you lived in Yeppoon for?
“I’ve lived in Yeppoon for over 6 years. I’ve got a very fluffy family, 4 dogs and a cat. I’m also engaged. It’s beautiful down here on the Capricorn Coast. I love our beaches and it’s such a friendly and safe place.”
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
“What spare time? I also run a small business called Capricorn Segways. I absolutely love Segways and the Capricorn Coast so I decided to combine the two. Our coast has so much to offer so I wanted to off this as an experience to everyone. I take people on Segway tours of the area. You should like the Capricorn Segways Facebook page {laughter}.”
